Final Music Video!!!!

Evaluation question 4

Evaluation Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Firstly.....our target audience:

Our target audience is predominantly females from the ages of 11-20. I felt that the average lifestyle that would be experienced by a member of our target audience was probably a student lifestyle. Also when looking at our genre and the celebrities surrounding our genre, there is a massive fan base, so when making our products we had to keep in mind that we would be targeting millions of fans who would be almost obsessive over our star. I also believe that although country/pop is quite a niche genre, especially in this country, it is becoming far more mainstream nowadays and in the US it is definitely one of the main genres. This would mean that our audiences taste in media and music would most likely be mainstream artists, so when creating our other products and taking our audience into account we had to make the products seem as mainstream as possible.

After showing our class members our video and after showing our teachers the video we got plenty of constructive criticism on how to improve our video.

The feedback we received was very helpful, especially as we got it from 17-18 year olds, which is how old some of our target audience members would be. The feedback we received was mostly positive however there were also some things mentioned that needed to be tweaked.

Some of the comments we received from peers:

"Good narrative parts"
"Nice transitions between shots"
"Nice range of shots/angles but in some shots the eyes and lips are cut out of the frame"
"Some unrelated shots"
"Good range of locations"
"Clear narrative"
"One of the shots was too dark. (playground one)"
"Transitions look a bit funny"
"Faster pace of shots"

After receiving this feedback we made some changes to our video.

We decided to play around and improve the brightness of some of the shots. One of the shots that was particularly dark had to have a particular effect added to it.

When showing the video to the teachers the audience feedback here was more about the technical alterations that needed to be changed in the video.

When looking at our video we used many aspects that would appeal to our target audience. When chatting to younger girls about music videos, it is clear that most of them are looking for a female lead to aspire and look up to and a male character who is good looking that will appeal to the female audience. Teenagers also LOVE drama so throwing in an abusive relationship to the narrative captures their full attention and they find themselves becoming more involved in the video. Then (for more drama) we added our dramatic twist that the main star character could be pregnant!

In this shot in the video, "WWSD?" is written on the mirror. This was done with our audience in mind. The reason we did this was because loyal fans and fans in general would know that this is the stars production company name "What would she do?" This would further draw them into the video making them feel a sense of exclusivity as only they would know the true meaning to this message on the mirror. In addition, for people who aren't usually fans but come across the video and watch it may be interested to find out more about this suspicious message. This could create a change or growth in the fan base.

Editing COMPLETE!!!

Today my group 13A1 finally finished our music video. Yesterday, our teachers looked over our work and gave us some minor tips on how to improve our video. Today we managed to improve on these issues and even managed to spend a while before the deadline fiddling with the colour and brightness to help get the best possible effect for the clips in our video.
We looked over it a few more times before exporting it and as a group we feel that the video has a good narrative with a shoving twist. Hopefully we will get a good mark for this video. Fingers crossed!

This is the link to my website which I completed with my group member May Abou-Amer.

Digi-Pack Completed!

Today I finished my ancillary product which was the Digi-Pack of our chosen star. I used a site called 'Pixlr' to complete this and edit the images. I found this part of the project really fun as some of the designed you could use were really effective!

Here is my Digi-Pack....

The front cover displays our main Star 'Diamond Clark' with her image and name. It also shows the name of her album which we called 'One-Eghty'. I used edits and special effects on the picture to make it stand out and in real life scenarios increase its chance of sale. In the bottom left had corner of the front cover i used an effect that looks like a 'Spark' this is because the song we chose to do was called 'Sparks Fly' so I thought i would add that element to show how it all links together.

For the second part of the Digi-Pack i used another image of Diamond Clark and a picture of a guitar as she is a country star! I used the hearts effect because I really liked the way the colours worked together. Originally I wanted to have an extra two pages here displaying the lyrics of our song 'Sparks Fly' however it turned out to be too difficult for me so I sadly had to abandon the idea!

Then for the CD part of the pack I got a black CD template and again edited the image so it suited the theme of my Digi-pack. I used a Diamond looking background, using an edit with stars in it. This sort of links to the theme of Diamonds for Diamond Clark!

For the back cover I wanted to display all the songs that would be on the album 'One-Eighty'. This was so it would look more like a professional Digi-pack as this is what most music artists do. I edited the colour of the picture again using some special effects so that it would again match the theme of the rest of the album. In the bottom right hand corner I added a 'Bar Code' because on professional products a bar code would normally feature.

Overall I am really pleased with the outcome of my Digi-Pack as I feel for someone like me with limited computer skills, to be able to edit pictures and use them to my advantage in presenting the correct theme is quite good! At one point I started my Digi-Pack using 'Photoshop', however I found this far too challenging so had to look at other ways to be able to complete this part of the project.

Editing Progress

This particular shot was originally far to dark to use on our video. This was because we were filming late into the evening once so our footage seemed blurry and far too dark. However, as we were running out of time we decided we just had to work with what we had. So as a group we looked through the 'Effects' category on our editing site 'Premier' and found that we war e able to adjust the brightness in some of our shots. We started messing around and managed to make our clip look a bit brighter. We also used a special effect called 'Watermark'. By doing this we thought that this particular edit made it look like the narrative scene we had filmed was a memory, looking back on the struggling couples relationship.

In this particular shot we used a sharpening effect and a lighting effect. This was again because the original content was too dark to see and so the audience therefore couldn't relate to the characters as wells they couldn't clearly see their faces. This particular shot is a narrative shot of the couple getting along well. This was filmed at Josie's house with out male lead Daniel Dickinson.

This next shot is where we see the first glimpse of a violent and abusive relationship and the first stage where the relationship goes wrong. In this particular shot we adjusted the brightness to bring up the colour.

This is our main female character Josie in the bath. This shot shows the bruises her violent boyfriend has given her. For this bruise we used dark eye shadow and applied it to Josie's back.

This is the shot that reveals the BIG TWIST in our music video. Our female lead reveals that her character is pregnant. This creates a shock factor that would thrill the audience, who want the main star to be away from the violence of her boyfriend. Now, it means that she has yet another reason to stay with her abusive boyfriend.

For may of our shots we used the effect 'dip-to-white transition'. This effect shows that a flashback is taking place of the relationship.

In this particular shot we made sure that the lyrics had a relationship with our music video. (Goodwin's Theory). The line in the song is 'lead me up the staircase won't you' and as you can see we have our female lead walking up a staircase. When showing this part of the video to others they have noticed this relationship between the lyrics and video, so hopefully this means it has been an effective method.

This particular shot links to our production company name which is WWSD. This stands for 'What Would She Do'. This is perfect in explaining the situation that our main character is in. Our group member May came up with this idea and I think it is brilliant as it also would make the fans feel personal satisfaction if they knew what the 'WWSD' shot stood for. Only fans of the star would obviously know this but for the people who don't, it would entice them into finding out more!

Website so far....

I am working on a website with my group member May, because during one of our lessons whilst discussing website planning, we were coming up with the same kind of ideas and have the same overall idea for a website.

This first picture is our 'Opening' page, showing a big picture of our main star Diamond Clark and at the top showing all the pages available to the viewer.

This is our 'Gallery' page. We made the pictures significantly large to promote the image and entice the fans into admiring our stars image. When hovering over the arrows on either side, the pictures move along the screen slowly. This I feel is a simple layout that is hopefully easy to use.

This image is of our 'home' page. When looking at artists examples of home pages it was clear that the traditional home page offered a whole load of information that you could click on that would take you straight to the page. May and I have decided to also follow this format and this is what we have done so far.

Overall, I feel that so far our website is going quite well and I believe it looks very professional!
I got my Mother to 'Preview' the website and have a look around to see if she could easily navigate around the website. She said that she found it fairly easy to navigate around and her computer skills aren't amazing! So this gives me hope that our website will be successful!

Examples of Artists Websites.

Taylor Swift Official Website.

This is her opening page and I really like the idea of an opening page with just a picture and a few minor details of the star and their album. I want to use this format on my website as I feel it will be quite effective as it was when I saw this particular one.

This is her gallery page.

This is her merchandise/store page which is a completely different style to the rest of the website. When you click on this it also opens a new tab.

News and events page - Showing latest happenings about the stars life. This is very informative for the fans and they know that any information on this website is legit.

Examples of Artists Websites.

Rihanna Official Website

Tour Dates- Simple displayed so easy for the fans to choose a date!

Home page which again shows a bit of everything that the website has to offer.

I really like Rihanna's website because I feel the overall look is very simple and easy to follow. When making my website I want to add this simple layout and structure to mine as I feel it is easier to follow and has a more professional look.

Examples of Artists Websites.

Ed Sheeran Official Website

When first opening up the website a window came up advertising and offering to buy Ed Sheerans new album to entice fans to buy his album. This is an excellent example of promotion!

This is a page promoting merchandise which is called the 'Store'. This again is a good way to entice fans into not only buying into the music but also extra merchandise which expands their interest in the star artist.

Tour dates on show again to entice people to buy a ticket to see his concert further selling his music and image.

Home page with a mixture of everything form the other pages!
I especially like this home page and i want to use the same idea where everything is accessible from one page as well as clicking on the links.

Group Meeting

The meeting today occurred during a filming session.
Today as a group we realised that our narrative worked better with just a single male and female lead characters. We have changed our narrative so that the male and female lead characters are in a relationship with each other, but they argue a lot and it turns out is can be quite an abusive and violent relationship.
As a group we still decided to keep the idea of the girl ending up pregnant. This provides a twist so the story isn't so obvious and un-original.

Editing the pictures.

After the photo shoot my group did I went home and decided on the pictures from the shoot that I wanted to use for my ancillary products. I used my iPhone to edit some of them using an app called 'Insta-Editor'. Here are some examples of the original and edited version.

Photoshoot Pictures....

The pictures we took on this photoshoot will help us when creating our websites and digi packs!
